Out with the old and in with the new… New Year is the perfect time to go all out and celebrate. For the ultimate night out, it has to be a masquerade ball, packed with smart suits, glamorous dresses and lashings of celebratory Champagne. Here’s our pick of the masked balls happening across the country this New Year’s Eve, from lavish sit-down dinners in country house hotels to burlesque-themed club nights in the city. Wherever you are, there’s a celebration for you.

London Hilton, Mayfair

For a spectacular way to see in the new year in the heart of London, book a ticket for the London Hilton Masquerade Gala Dinner. Dine on a menu of modern British fayre created by Executive Head Chef Anthony Marshall, then celebrate with the whole of London with fireworks from across the capital on a big screen live feed. Century Club, London

Fancy welcoming in the New Year to the sound of Big Ben as you watch fireworks from a rooftop terrace? The Century Club in London’s Soho is hosting a masquerade ball this December 31, culminating with a celebration on the rooftops as Big Ben chimes midnight. Looking over the crowds in Trafalgar Square, the Century Club event kicks off with cocktails, with celebrations continuing over four floors, complete with multiple bands, DJs and cabaret performers. It might not be your traditional masked ball (there’s no dinner included) but it could be the perfect choice for fans of burlesque, dubstep and electro who fancy something more glamorous than a standard club night for New Year. Dumbleton Hall, The Costwolds

Combine a glamorous masquerade ball with a day at the races with a special deal from Dumbledon Hall in the picturesque Cotswolds. For £275 per person, this striking country house hotel is offering two nights’ accommodation, a ticket to its New Year’s Eve masquerade ball and a New Year’s Day trip to Cheltenham races, finished off with dinner at the hotel on January 1. Love 2018’s box office smash The Greatest Showman? Brighton ‘VIP superclub’ Shoosh is hosting a New Year’s masquerade ball themed around the PT Barnum story for a theatrical way to see out 2018. Entertainment on the night will include aerialists, fire breathers, angle grind displays and pyrotechnics, and you can hire exclusive tables, booths and lounges for anything from eight to 25 people – some with their own bar and dedicated waitress service. The Queen’s Hotel and Spa, Bournemouth

Strut your stuff on the red carpet on a glamorous night out at the Queen’s Hotel and Spa in Bournemouth this New Year. See in the New Year to the strains of Auld Lang Syne played by a traditional Scottish piper at the sprawling Black Horse at Beamish. A traditional meets modern events venue with accommodation in the rolling County Durham countryside, the Black Horse will be serving up a prosecco and canape reception, plus four-course meal, seven-piece band and DJ for its New Year’s Eve Masquerade Ball. Alea Casino, Nottingham

For a New Year’s celebration worthy of James Bond, why not head to a masquerade ball at a casino? Alea in Nottingham is hosing a Masquerade Ball on December 31, with welcome martinis and a four-course meal, plus entertainment from a live band and DJ for dancing in to the night. For a five-star experience complete with spa, book a ticket to the New Year’s masquerade ball at the Elizabethan Boringdon Hall. With a five-course dinner and fireworks on the lawn at midnight, this elegant masked event is one of the more expensive at £95 per person, but it’s the perfect treat to end 2018 in style. If you’re feeling particularly flush, you could combine your masquerade ball with an overnight stay. The Cube, Birmingham

Head to the heart of the city for a New Year masquerade ball in one of Birmingham’s most iconic modern buildings. Hosted in Canalside in The Cube – the 25-storey shopping, living and entertainment complex built in 2007 – the black-tie ball kicks off with a champagne reception, followed by a three-course dinner and dancing ‘to the early morning’. But if you want to continue the party, the ball is right in the heart of the city, making it easy to move on to one of Birmingham’s many clubs and bars as you celebrate the start of 2019.

The Grand Pier, Weston-super-Mare

Be wowed by acrobats and aerial performers at this lavish masquerade banquet at the seaside resort’s iconic Grand Pier. For £59 per person, you’ll be treated to a drinks reception and four-course meal, before hitting the dance floor for a DJ set spanning the 1960s to the present day. The event will include a photobooth to capture some party memories and when the clock strikes 12, a shower of confetti will welcome in the new year. For the guests who make it past midnight, the ticket price also includes a survivors’ breakfast – perfect for helping you keep the party going well in to the night.

Turn a New Year’s night out into a much-needed festive break at the 17th century Highgate House hotel in Northampton. Set in 26 acres of grounds, this imposing country house hotel is hosting a lavish masquerade ball to see in 2019, complete with prosecco reception. Tickets cost £100 per person and include a four-course meal, casino games and entertainment from the Big City All Stars band. The hotel is offering a special deal if you stay overnight, including an afternoon tea on arrival and brunch on New Year’s Day, for £330 for a double room and £200 for single.
